I actually finished this artwork last November and held off from posting this artwork because of the things I've planned for this, which include:

1. Giving printed copies away as Christmas presents;
2. Selling them; and
3. Continuing the same line of concept artworks through more artworks.

But, It's too late for No. 1, and No. 2 doesn't seem feasible at the moment. I have concepts in mind for other artworks with the same idea.

Nevertheless, enjoy my most favorite artwork so far. Was high with Watch the Throne when I was still doing this artwork. I love this. I love this so much I postponed posting this online also to avoid getting plagiarized. Haha.

The font I used (Cairissian) is a free one Hydro74 offers over at Legacy of Defeat. Check 'em out!

But a real expert knows what he's doing and if you're looking for an expert then look no further. ;) It was a harrowing, pain-staking experience but I'll definitely want another one. Haha.

While reading SuperPanalo Sounds! I wrote one part of this on the book and the other on my notebook:

Indeed, Peter is a painter. A painter who weaves colors from forbidden open secrets and melodies driven by the unforgiving saxophone screaming from his vinyl disc player. He illustrates the beauty of the morbidity of the rotting esteros, kids swimming in canals alongside crap, with a paintbrush hitting screeching syncopated notes, and on a canvas that is SuperPanalo Sounds! causing a crawling cataclysmic catastrophe of canned consciousnesses, wrecking unceasing havoc on my tabula rasa.

Thanks Baby for this awesome, awesome Christmas gift (and the others - they were indescribably important and useful to me). :) The words are now coming, creeping back. :)

A Magical Weekend

Me and my awesome girlfriend went with my family to Enchanted Kingdom last Sunday. Not that it's Christmas season or anything, we just wanted to go somewhere new and we have tickets. Haha. I really did not fancy going there for the sole reason that I am such a coward (I finally got to ride the Space Shuttle but vowed never to do so again. Haha)

I'd like to bring light on the fact that Charmaine, my 8-year-old sis is more adventurous than all of us. Haha.

After Bungee Jumping she wanted to ride the Flying Fiesta, which we all tried.

The awesome girlfriend, and Charmaine, who doesn't seem to get tired and rattled by the rides.

After the first trip to the Flying Fiesta, Charmaine wanted us to ride the Space Shuttle (with most of us opting out from). While I was in the ride with her I was waiting for the time she gets scared and cries - that time never came. In fact - to my disbelief - she was enjoying the ride.

After this hell machine Charmaine wanted us to ride again.

Charmaine then wanted to try the other rides that most of us wanted to sit out of. It was a rainy day then but we tried all the rides we can to make the most out of our stay.

You can tell by this photo that Baby and my sister were having fun, and all of us too.

I got home exhausted but every hint of being tired was worth all the fun we had. :)

HF EDs Batch 23. May 2009

You do not part from Heraldo Filipino simply because you have graduated. You do not part from HF because it is a mandate that a life-changing experience there deems you connected to it for a very long time - like a blood bond.

As we grow older we visit our memories of HF fondly. We remember vividly the scenes of what happened inside the walls of GMH213. Yes, we remember them with keen and tingling nostalgia.

I, for one, still ~~partakes~~ partake (grammatical error, I know. Sucks) in its activities whenever possible. Yes, HF changed my life. It changed how I think. Heck, most of the friends I've met during college are friends I've met because of HF.

Written on April 13. In remembrance of good times spent and in hoping for better ones waiting.

I've been mum about this but I've always wanted to be featured. Though I'm not the one featured in this blog but one of my works (good thing they got the updated version of this artwork; they even made their own title for it), I'm still happy my works got the attention of other bloggers.

A friend of mine, Renan, invited me to CargoCollective.com, an online portfolio hosting site which is pretty amazing for its built-in themes and minimalist look - a more modern look compared to my Behance.net portfolio. I think you can also edit the CSS of the site but I don't know how. Haha.

Anyway, check my portfolio out! I'll be uploading more designs soon! I'll choose from all my best designs though, the basic package I'm using for free is limited to 12 projects of 100mb total size.

Anyway, we ate at The Thai Kitchen at Robinsons Galleria with Dianne. We had a hard time looking for the place, and one reason could be because we haven't been at Galleria in a long time. Haha.

Back From Hiatus

I would always airdrum to the beats of my favorite songs. I sure wish I can pound on some real drums soon.

A lot happened recently. Last Saturday I attended Heraldo Filipino's 25th Anniversary and Alumni Homecoming. Met some old friends and made some new ones. I was late though; I arrived at around 9PM, just one hour left for the program but just early enough for the afterparty. Haha.

There were lots of cameras clicking during the photo-op of different batches, sections and section editors. I wish the photographers upload their photos so I can grab them ASAP. Haha.

Then we went to a friend's place to drink. I slept at 4AM, was afraid of getting pissed drunk 'cause I still have to meet Baby the next day.

Me and Baby celebrated our first anniversary in La Union. Why? I've been wanting to go to the beach for a long time. Coincidentally, that weekend was also John Estrada's wedding (showbiz? haha) so hotels were packed. Good thing we made our reservation early.

When hotels have towels available for their guests, I don't use the towel I brought and use the hotel's instead. Haha

Fine, fine sand. Sitting down in front of the sea is calming.

There was a parade the next day. I don't know why, and I can't understand shit from what they're all talking about. Haha.

Too bad we missed the sunset, but the experience itself was something I've wanted for a long time. A much-needed vacation - work got stressful during that time.

I've been given a lot of opportunities lately. I've been doing a lot recently. Though they don't seem to end, I feel lighter after every finished project. Career-wise, I think I'm going through a steeper slope upward. That means there'll be a lot more things for me to accomplish.

It'll be hard, but I'm sure I can work harder for this. The people around me believe that I can, so why can't I? :)

Some weekends back (when I still had money), me and babe tried the sushi buffet at Sakae Sushi. We're suckers for Japanese food, and we just had to try and find out how good their rolls are. I never imagined getting so full (and bloated) after a few plates of sushi. For its price, it's a steal.

As you may have noticed, I've changed the layout of my old blog. It's been with me for two years (and counting), and I've maintained its same stressingly-dark theme. I found out that the Blogger team released a new set of themes, as well as a template designer, and easier ways to customize my blog (thanks guys!).

It's less stressing now, with more gray tones and colors present as links, backgrounds, and other stuff you and I can discover.

I've also added some new gadgets that the great Blogger team released - the Stats and Popular Pages widgets. You can check them out on the sidebar and at the bottom of the page.

I've been putting off writing since most of the time, I don't have the slightest idea of what to write. But I do want to write about, erm, something.

So this is it, December. Another year ends. I don't want to contemplate on those things that will end, rather, I'd like to think about the things that will carry on to the next year, and probably for more years.

It's kind of bittersweet to think that December brings us light and joy and much-wanted happiness, but those extra-happy things will all be over next year. It's like an upgrade; we (or I guess it's just me) feel that December-happy-rush whenever we see the used-to-be dim streets filled with sparkling and heart-warming christmas lights.

It's one of these rare moments when I want to get all mushy in my write-ups and say that I just love seeing those streets all lighted up, walking through them with colorful lights glimmering like it's all warm and fuzzy.

I just love December. And this month deserves a blogpost.

At Long Last! v.2

So there, it took a week for my continuation. haha.

After travelling for one hour (excluding the stopover we made, um, somewhere), our bus broke and we waited for the "rescue" bus. After 45 minutes (I think), the bus came and we're back on the road.

It was a fun trip. We even passed SCTEX even when the bus driver and conductor were not allowed to do so. How? Me and baby forced them to do it! haha! That's because the usual travel route was closed and we had to choose between passing the suggested alternative route (which adds at least two more hours on the road) or going through SCTEX (which even cuts our travel time by at least an hour or two).

After arriving at Pasay City terminal at around 6PM, we decided to go to MOA for dinner, my iPod accessories, and baby's regular dose of yogurt. :P

At Long Last!

For a change, I'll write a journal about what happened. And stuff.

At Mines View Park.

Wow. At long last - Baguio.

October 30: Me and Baby were talking through text about random stuff, and eventually got to talking about Baguio. Even got into a small argument about when we'll go to Baguio, until she suggests that we go there that night. That was a good idea, I thought. So we devised a plan that we'll execute as soon as I got home that night.

And so we did. As soon as I got home from work and packed my things, we caught a ride going to Pasay, and strode through on-going construction near the pedestrian lane, to reach the Victory Liner bus terminal.

Pinikpikang Manok. Imagined it to be grilled, or roasted. haha

October 31: This is when the fun began. Haha. I'd like to emphasize that we have been hitting lucky strikes throughout this trip. You see, we haven't reserved ourselves a hotel room in the area, but was lucky enough to be welcomed by a group of tourist information people, which helped us reserve a hotel room - and a cheap one at that.

To cut things short, we checked in at Hotel Henrico, a quaint, cheap but nice hotel at Kisad Road. It was not the best around but we definitely got more than what we paid for. :)

After breakfast (which was free, btw), we walked around the vicinity and reached Burnham Park. We tried the seahorse boat ride (which was cheap, too), which was entirely out of the plan. Haha. Got my left palm bruised terribly with the oar. I know, I'm the best seahorse boat rower there is. Haha! We caught the eye of one photographer there, who took photos of us and charged us dearly for them. We haggled and got 4 shots instead of everything for P600, I think.

Baby was looking for Strawberry Taho, so we got one while waiting for our photos to be delivered to us. We walked around, went to Session Road, walked around some more, and planned to have dinner at Pizza Volante there.

We had our lunch at one of the carinderias at Burnham Park. I loved the food, and they served us with platefuls of rice, liempo, and a bowl of Pinikpikang Manok, a local rendition of cooking chicken.

After lunch, we went to Mines View Park, strolled around and took photos. I was browsing my wallet for money when I was bumped (I think) and all the contents of my wallet fell to the ground. It was embarassing, but we managed to laugh at it. Haha.

I'm on a horse! Haha! Spoofing an Old Spice commercial. :D

After buying some stuff at Mines View Park, we went to The Mansion by jeep. Daming jejemon. Haha. I bought meself a limited-edition (daw) Seal of the Office of the President sticker, which I'll stick on my laptop.

After that, we're off to the Botanical Garden. There was a lot to see there, but we had to go back to the hotel. Haha. We waited around until it was dark and then we caught a ride to Bayanihan bldg. (I think) for some ukay-ukay. Had us some good finds there. Dad was right - there are branded stuff there if you're lucky and good at looking for things. Haha.

We ended the day with dinner at Pizza Volante, where the food is, um, Italian. Haha. We also went to a local bar that also serves good frozen yogurt. Yum!

We fell asleep while watching 2012 at HBO.

November 1: Woke up for breakfast and prepping ourselves for the ride home.

I am proud to be the artist who designed something that will rest for a very long time. That's what I love about mall marketing, some of the things we do will be part of mall operations and will run for a long time.

I'd like to think I've revolutionized something. I've made something happen. And that's a very fulfilling thought.

I've been meaning to blog for a very long time. Truth is, I haven't been able to linger online as much as I used to, and the ideas I usually come up with now have a shorter life span. More often than not, I don't have much to blog about.

I haven't been able to blog about pressing issues, social norms and the human condition as I see it, and a lot of things that I used to blog about.

Indeed, a lot of things have changed this year. Indeed.

As days, months go on, this motto has been harder and harder to live by. People just can't choose not to grow up.

Last Monday (I'm no longer in HF so I can use "last" instead of "on" haha) Mica and Pia met up with Baby (I was late, sooooo late) at Megamall for dinner. :) Sorry for making you guys wait too long. I came from a basketball game in Alabang and got stuck in traffic going back to Starmall EDSA-Shaw.

I'm still not yet done with a video project. I'm excited to spend more time with Photoshop and Illustrator. So I made this, just a quick design.

Also, I made a new logo for meself. :)

The Things of all the Things

I was able to watch Sigwa earlier today at CCP, and after the movie I realized a lot of things.

I won't talk extensively about the aesthetics of the movie (I like how the post production was done, the texture of the movie was smooth and crisp, very fitting for the setting), but rather, I'll talk about how I "felt" after watching the movie. Lourd de Veyra told us during one literary criticism session that what matters more in reading poems is how you felt, and not whether you understood the piece or not.

It clearly defined how activism is, how it was during the time that activism was crucial in changing society. Rading (one of the main characters in the movie) said something about being and growing old as an activist. He said that an activist grows old as an activist. He meant that the fire in one's heart that is brought about by youthful activism should never die even as one grows old.

He also mentioned something about rallies. In a discussion with his son, he said that not because someone attends rallies he is automatically an activist. That in the end, its still how one yearns for social change that makes one an activist. Not the means, but the ends he aims to achieve.

I've realized how much I've left behind with how I lived my life after college. Not the youthful spirit nor the yearning for positive and progressive change in our society, but with how I've lagged in doing activities in doing so.

Sigwa made me realize that I've left behind film making, and the activities I used to attend that concern what the characters refer to as activism. The movie presented the different faces of student activists during and after the Martial Law.

It is a sad movie. Even if there was a resolution of sorts at the end, it never failed to hit the current idea of the youth about activism, how the youth don't take progressive and positive social change today, and how much has changed with how the youth thought of our society.

I still yearn for the so-called change, that's why I'll never leave the country, for one day I'll be here to witness it rise from the rut that we are in now.

Me and Baby went to CCP early to buy tickets for the 12:45pm screening, and then went to Quiapo to buy hopia and indulge in what we dub as the best fresh lumpia eatery ever conceived by human imagination. Well, the last bit was a bit of exaggerated, but that place sold the best lumpia I've ever had! And then we went back to CCP just in time for the screening. And then we went to MOA to buy the infamous Chocolate Heaven cake from Red Ribbon. And then went here for Camille's birthday. Lots of food! :D

Okay, back to work! I love you baby!

I seriously need to get back to writing more often; there was one time when I got confused into using 'they're' when I meant to use 'their'. Now I was never the best of our batch of writers but hell I know my English well. Well, I used to. I think. Haha.

This blog is a memoir and a repository of ideas. A library. And you know most people don't go to libraries anymore. So it's safe to publish my thoughts - for now.

See, the reason why I don't blog that much is that I've not keen into posting my experiences for the whole world to read (assuming that the whole world reads my blog). Except for those brag-worthy ones, though. And I make sure that when I do post something, it's something I can brag about. Eat dirt, SOBs. Haha.

So expect less blog posts on this site (except from designs, which I will try to update every now and then).

Things I want to do before the year ends:

1. Baguio, Bohol, Cebu, and Bacolod trip with Beth (you just have to try the Chicken Inasal. haha). I've never been to Baguio, Bohol, and Cebu, so hopefully by the year ends we can go to those places.
2. Get a new tattoo on November. Something more kick-ass. Like my face with a big smirk on it.
3. Learn how to cook. Note: Kare-kare.
4. Gain weight. Haha. This is serious.

Tinatamad akong magsulat. Haha. But I would really, really like to go back to school, and finally, teach. And organize an exhibition of my works. And collaborate with someone for an art project. I remember when we were kids my idea of art projects was less complicated than how I think of them now.

For older people, it's hard to see why birthdays are supposed to be a joyous moment. Except for the celebrations, of course, but the idea of getting older still sends shivers down my spine.

This birthday is waaaaay different. :) (please, let me pour out all the cheese tonight :P I'm a fucking kid with a lot of giddy on his shoes. haha )

Early this morning, I met with Beth so we could commute to work together. She prepared gifts for me. Imagine my surprise when I was given a paper bag with sumptuous mini-cupcakes with candles, a pack of my favorite Snacku, and she cooked lunch for me! Yeah! :D Even if we're sleepy on the way to work, every trip with her to work is goooooood. :)

At work, colleagues goad me to celebrate my birthday. But I had other plans, so...

I logged out early today, since I also logged in earlier than my schedule. I met with Beth at SM Megamall so we could buy her a pack of green salad (craving. haha). We were asleep most of the time; something we don't usually do on short trips. We had time to sleep, 'cause we're heading straight to my place.

Then another surprise! Turns out the HF25 batch bought me cake! And the food! We munched on everything served on the dinner table until it was time to go home.

I can't thank the people behind this epic birthday enough! Especially Beth (thank you so much!! thank you! mwah!), Jod and Camille (who were, I think, planning the cake idea behind my back), HF25, and all my friends who greeted me and made my smile a little bigger.

Thank you so much! This will be a good year! :D

These are the source illustrations for the Rainy Days-themed mall decorations. We tried out different colors and saw the ones that would fit in and blend with each other without being monochromatic.

I illustrated the raincoat and umbrella while my colleague in Starmall Alabang drew the clouds and raindrops.

I do have a passionate connection with clouds. I love the detail that the light from the sky provide for the clouds that hang on it.

Life As It Is

So I haven't written anything here for weeks, probably even a month. Fact is, I've been busy with designs for the mall. So busy that even when I'm home I do some of the work that I need to accomplish for the next day.

It feels good now that the grinding work that filled my notebook pages with lots and lots of pending projects are all done now. Signed, emailed, printed (on tarpaulins, that is).

It also feels good that in a month, I'll be done paying for my laptop. That's gonna be a lot of money saved (or spent on something else). And in July, we will celebrate my laptop's first anniversary with me. Haha.

I also would like to tell everyone that I've been with Manuela Corporation for more than three months now. My boss hinted at me with something positive when I asked about my evaluation, though I can't divulge what that is (ayokong maudlot).

Life is great. I'm happy with the way things are going. Going to sleep nowadays ain't bad like it used to. I feel fulfilled with my designs and my boss doesn't show dissatisfied with them. In fact, she commended one of my designs (the one that I really put my creative juices into - look at my older posts).

I've been watching videos on Dr. Michio Kaku, a famed theoretical physicist who "theorized" on the magnetic shock waves that the Sun will release sometime soon (forgot the year, must be near to that recently-shown apocalyptic movie), and will fry all electrical devices. Anyway, I'm not here to talk about him, I just want to share what he said when he was asked about his spirituality. (In context) Einstein said that there are two gods, there is the god of intervention, the god who must be feared and wrathful and who we must pray to every night. Then there is the god of beauty, of order, of eloquence. You see, the universe could have been in chaos, but there are theories, equations that could fit in a piece of paper. Einstein believed in that god behind all the order, beauty, and eloquence.

Why all of these thoughts about faith? One, 'cause I've found something real to believe in (finally!) and, two, we went to church today. Somewhere I've never been in for years.

Here are some of my most recent designs for the mall. The first two designs are still subject for approval, though, but I like them so much because I've incorporated my own style into them.

The thing with designing for a specific audience, in our case the mall patrons, is that you have to combine text clarity and readability with visual appeal. It should communicate the copy more than anything else. The text should be understood at first glance, since more often than not, mall patrons wouldn't stay and look at your designs.
